PCRC CHAIRMAN’S

From the Office of the State Chairman

Welcome to our world of service to humanity!
It's a great privilege to continue serve as the Chairman of the prestigious Police Community Relations Committee in Ogun State; ours is an environment where we exchange ideas on the sustenance and improvement of civil participation and engagement in community policing across our dear State. So, we are delighted to have you all here as valued members of our communities.

Community policing is a collective effort that brings together law enforcement agencies and community members address crime, safety concerns, and build stronger and safer neighborhoods. It is a partnership that relies on trust, communication, and active participation from everyone involved.

Through this website, we aim to provide you with the tools, resources, and information necessary to actively contribute to making our community safer and more secure. You will find updates on community events, crime prevention tips, and educational materials to empower you to be proactive in maintaining a safe environment for all.

We encourage you to actively engage with the website, share your ideals, concerns, and suggestions. Together, we can work towards creating a community where everyone feels safe, heard, and supported. Your active participation will contribute towards the success of our community policing efforts as we build bridges, foster collaboration and works towards a safer and stronger Ogun State.

A Brief History Of

Police Community Relations Committee in Nigeria

Section 113 (1) of Police Act 2020, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria provides for Establishment of Community Policing Committee. Section 117 (2) of the Police Act 2020 LFN provides that “The Inspector General of Police, in implementing community policing, shall promote organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address conditions that cause crime, social disorder and fear of crime.”

In view of the above statutory provisions of the law and in order to create a harmonious, cordial relationship between the Police and the Community, the Nigeria Police Force established an avenue for members of the public to interact with officers and men of the Nigeria Police for the purpose of enhancing community relations. This partnership and understanding between the general public and the Police gave birth to an association known as POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE (PCRC) nationwide. In May 1984, the then IGP, Etim Inyang established the PCRC. At the formation stage, the PCRC was functioning at the State, Area Command and Divisional levels.

However, the organizational structure, rules and regulations of the association at these levels were not in uniform as each Branch had its own bye-law governing its activities until the formation of a National Body in 2006, and the election of National Officers of the PCRC.
